The leader of the opposition Yesh Atid party, Yair Lapid, called on members of the German parliamen,t to help Israel fight against the European decision to label Israeli products from the settlements that are sold in European supermarkets.
The labeling decision is expected to be published by the European Commission on Wednesday. During the meeting with members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Bundestag in Berlin, Lapid said the EU’s labeling is a "continuation of the boycott movement" which is "anti-Semitic and misguided.
"He told the committee that "anyone who thinks that this move contributes to the political process is wrong. The decision on product labeling causes the exact opposite and holds back the chances to negotiate a two-state solution.""The decision to label products is a boycott in every sense of the word," Lapid said.
In an interview with the Berlin-based DW television news network, Lapid said, "The EU is hiding behind legal jargon and trying to paint a picture that this is a legal matter. This is incorrect. It's a political issue. The EU is capitulating to the worst elements of jihad. The labeling of settlement products is a direct continuation of the boycott movement against Israel, which is anti-Semitic and misguided"...
