Death of Mordechai Lerman

Born in Lublin in 1912, Mordechai Lerman worked for many years within France’s Jewish Community. He was an active member of the Zionist Federation and was general secretary and later president of the Federation of French Jewish Societies of which he was honorary president until his death.

In this capacity, he represented the FSJF within the CRIF of which he was an honorary member. At the same time, he was a member of the extended Bureau of the Word Jewish Congress and of the Jewish Agency. He was also a delegate of the Poalei Zion Party at numerous Zionist Congresses.

A journalist and writer, Mordechai Lerman published a French-Yiddish/Yiddish-French dictionary. He was an editor on the Yiddish daily Unzer Wort.

Mordechai Lerman has received honours from the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Youth, the City of Paris and Union of Jewish Writers and was awarded the Max Cukierman prize.
