Receiving Richard Prasquier and the General Director of CRIF Haim Musicant, Jean-David Levitte, diplomatic advisor to President Nicolas Sarkozy, and Nicolas Galey, advisor for North Africa, Near and Middle East, confirmed to their guests France’s firm position with regard to Iran over the issue of the atomic bomb.
This attitude was forcefully affirmed by the President last 26 August: “If Europe wants to once again make history rather than be its victim, it must take ownership of the values it holds dear and defend them firmly but without aggressiveness. This requires the leading countries to not wait, they must show the way. I was proud of Europe when in Geneva, following our initiative, Europe left the room when President Ahmadinejad gave his unacceptable speech. The generations who preceded us did not build Europe to hear today that we have to wipe Israel off the map. There are values, there is an identity and there are things which are unacceptable.”
Richard Prasquier greeted France’s firmness, which positions it as a leader in the fight against Iran’s aggressive desires.
CRIF spoke of the resurgence of anti-Semitic acts in several European countries under different forms, which is of course a source of worry.
