Celebrating the anniversary of France’s freedom in a place where Gilad Shalit, a French-Israeli citizen, has been imprisoned for the past three years, with no news of his well-being, is an insult to the very symbol of France’s national holiday and a provocation for the young man’s family.
The Israeli government managed to prevent this project from happening, reminding the Consular envoys of Gilad Shalit’s dual French and Israeli nationality. He has been a hostage of Hamas for over three years.
France’s Ambassador to Tel Aviv, Jean-Michel Casa, for his part, during the 14 July celebrations at his official residence reiterated the demands of the French presidency for the immediate liberation of the Franco-Israeli citizen.
