Jerusalem, Israel’s capital will not be divided

While recognising that Israel’s democratically elected government is sovereign and sole authorised to take the decisions it judges useful for peace in the Near East, CRIF considers that Jerusalem, Israel’s historic capital, must remain a single and undivided entity.

CRIF draws attention to the fact that it is only since the reunification of Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty in 1967 that the faithful of all three monotheistic religions are able to worship at their holy sites in full freedom.

(The spokesperson for the French Foreign Ministry, Frédéric Desagneaux, had officially condemned in France’s name the speech made by Benyamin Netanyahu at the ceremony commemorating the reunification of Jerusalem. In his speech, the Israeli Prime Minister had said that “Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and will remain so for ever”.)
