While in Paris, Ehud Barak met with Hervé Morin, the French Minister of Defence, and subsequently with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bernard Kouchner, and President Nicolas Sarkozy.
According to the Elysee, Nicolas Sarkozy reasserted “that the time has come to make peace with the Palestinians because this is the best guarantee for Israel’s security”.
Israel’s second television channel revealed that while Ehud Barak was in Paris, he also “secretly met” Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf. Ehud Barak told Musharraf about his concern over the rise of Muslim extremism in Pakistan and the possibility of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons falling into the hands of radicals.
